Music in our bones

Built by
musicians

Hard Driver was not designed by a committee at a guitar company. It was developed by Schuyler Duryee and Rick Knotts, two working guitarists who wanted something that did not exist and then spent years building it properly.

The founders

Schuyler Duryee

President of Hard Driver and co-developer of the system. He has guided the venture from its earliest prototypes through to the signature instruments it ships in today.

Co-founder

Rick Knotts

Co-founder and general manager, and a working Seattle musician long before he was an engineer. He still plays lead guitar in Rail, and that ear is the reason Hard Driver was judged by how it sounded rather than how it measured.

Among our own

Three decades in the industry means the people around Hard Driver are mostly old friends. That has always been the point.

The workbench

The system was refined the slow way, one revision at a time, on instruments the founders were willing to cut into.

Test instruments and measurement gear. Development happened in the open air as often as in a shop.

Still being refined

Hard Driver is the original on-board electric guitar sustainer. The technology is improved continually, which is why it has stayed in the instruments of players who could choose anything.
